Sidetracked was thrilled to be invited to perform as the guest band at the 2026 BandQuest Auckland Heats, taking to the stage across two exciting nights at Auckland’s iconic Bruce Mason Centre.
BandQuest is New Zealand’s leading live music event for primary and intermediate school students. Developed by the team behind Smokefree Rockquest, BandQuest gives young musicians the opportunity to perform on a professional stage, work with experienced sound and production crews, and share their passion for music with supportive audiences. For many participants, it is their first experience performing in a major theatre environment and an important stepping stone in their musical journey.
Being invited to perform as the guest band was a special honour for Sidetracked. The invitation recognised the band’s recent achievement in reaching theย Smokefree Rockquest Finals. As an emerging band making its mark on the New Zealand youth music scene, the opportunity to perform at BandQuest allowed Sidetracked to share its music with a new audience while supporting and encouraging the next generation of performers.
Over the two nights, the Bruce Mason Centre was filled with energy, enthusiasm, and an incredible range of musical talent. Sidetracked enjoyed the chance to perform in front of students, whฤnau, teachers, and fellow musicians, while also experiencing the excitement that makes BandQuest such a memorable event.
For the band, one of the highlights was seeing so many young performers gaining confidence on stage, supporting one another, and celebrating live music. Many of the students were performing in a professional venue for the very first time, and it was inspiring to witness their passion and dedication.
We would like to thank the BandQuest and Rockquest teams for the invitation and for the work they do in creating opportunities for young musicians throughout New Zealand. We’d also like to congratulate every band and performer who took part in the Auckland heats. The talent on display was outstanding, and the future of New Zealand music is in very good hands.
